Salt Lake City, Utah

Welcome to the Beehive State
With 5 national parks, 9 national monuments, 15 first-class skiing areas with the “Greatest Snow on Earth“, numerous state parks and a vibrant metropolis, Utah is a desirable location that has no equal in the world.

Salt Lake City

The state capital Salt Lake City owes its name to the Great Salt Lake in the north of the metropolis. The city invites you to discover hidden natural resources and attracts travelers from all over the world with its numerous places of interest and activities. We recommend to architecture enthusiasts the Utah State Capitol and Temple Square with the Salt Lake Temple. Salt Lake City also has plenty to offer artistically: the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and Dreamscapes. Or enjoy a breathtaking view from Capitol Hill or Ensign Peak, allow yourself some time out in Liberty Park or discover local delicacies in Caputo’s Market & Deli. All this and much more await you in Salt Lake City.

The Mighty 5®

No less than 5 majestic national parks came into existence through wind and erosion millions of years ago. They feature untouched nature with numerous red rocks, stone arches, canyons, buttes, and cliffs.
  • Arch in German means “archway” and gives us the first hint about what constitutes the national park: over 2,000 stone arches characterize the landscape. The emblem is the 16-meter-high Delicate Arch. The panoramic road Arches Scenic Drive invites you to take a road trip and promises many other highlights such as the Balanced Rock and the Double O Arch.

Interplay of colors

The Great Salt Lake is separated into two parts by a railway embankment. This results in a different salt content that in turn influences countless organisms. In the northern Gunnison Bay, pink-colored microbes, which contain carotenoids, color the water pink, especially in late summer.

From lake to surreal salt flats

Around 15,000 years ago, Lake Bonneville occupied a third of Utah’s entire area. When the lake dried out, salt deposits, the Bonneville Salt Flats, formed. However, one part of the lake survived and is today known as Great Salt Lake throughout the world.

Why the Beehive State?

The beehive has made it onto the flag of the US state of Utah as the central element. It is considered the symbol of industriousness and was made the symbol of the state when Utah was founded.

Delicious fun fact!

Jell-O is the official state snack and is extremely popular among Utah’s inhabitants. Especially in Salt Lake City: the inhabitants here eat more Jell-O than anywhere else in the USA.
