Traveling with children

Flying is always a very special event for our young passengers. So it’s important to us that your children have a nice time on board our flights.

Discover Airlines offers airline tickets for children at the corresponding child fare. Every child requires their own ticket and children aged two and over must also have their own seat. After take-off, our crew hand out coloring books to help the time fly by and ensure that our youngest passengers are left with happy memories of their trip.

Baggage regulations for children

The free baggage allowance for babies (0‒2 years of age), irrespective of booked fare (with the exception of the Economy Light fare), route and Miles & More status, is one bag weighing up to 23 kg with a size of 158 cm. Children aged two and over have the same free baggage allowance as adults, corresponding to the booked fare.

You can also take your own booster seat, child seat, cot, or foldable stroller on board as additional carry-on baggage free of charge. Foldable strollers can be handed over when boarding. They will be returned to you after landing.

Baby on board

For babies weighing up to 11 kg and a maximum height of 67 cm, Discover Airlines provides baby bassinets free of charge on all long-haul flights. Please note that, depending on your booking class, a seat reservation fee for the seat with the bassinet may apply. The number of bassinets on board is limited. You can reserve a bassinet up to 52 hours before your flight departs. For further information, please contact our service center.

We provide water suitable for baby bottles, so there is no need to purchase water after you have passed through security control. We also have baby food on board, however, we recommend bringing your baby's favorite food or bottle with you as baby food availability is limited on our flights. We will happily warm up baby’s bottles or food for you on board. Moreover, changing tables can be found in the washrooms on board and spare diapers are available for emergencies.

Children traveling alone

It is particularly important to us that our young passengers are happy when they arrive at their destination. Our service for unaccompanied minors (UM) can be booked on all point-to-point connections (departure and destination airport FRA). The service is mandatory for unaccompanied children aged between 5 and 11; for children over the age of 12 it is optional. Children aged from 5 to 11 can travel with a companion from their own family (e.g., a sibling) who must be at least 16 years old. So, for example, no UM service would be necessary if an older sibling (17 years of age) were to accompany two younger siblings (10 years of age). Our care service for children traveling alone and the corresponding flight can only be booked through our Service Center or at an airport counter. A fee of EUR 75 / GBP 64 / CHF 82 / US$ 89 / CZK 1,914 / SEK 759 / NOK 763 / DKK 558/ PLN 338 / HUF 26,396 will be charged for using our care service per route and per unaccompanied child.

Child seats

You are welcome to take your own child seat on board with you, provided that the child restraint system is a product accepted by Discover Airlines. There is no charge for using a child seat on board. However, parents must buy a CHILD ticket for babies (under two years) in order to attach the child seat to a passenger seat.

The child restraint system must not impede other passengers in the event of a possible emergency evacuation. The following rules are therefore in place in relation to boarding and seat designation; please observe these when checking in and choosing your seat:

We recommend that you choose a window seat for the child using the child restraint system. As the accompanying adult, you should take the seat next to them in any case.
Please avoid choosing seats in the emergency exit rows.

The following requirements must be met:

The child seat must be in perfect condition.
The child restraint system must not impede anyone in the event of an evacuation.
Parents are familiar with the use of the child restraint system and can attach the seat themselves. The child seat is the property of the parents and is their responsibility.
In principle, child restraint systems must be able to be attached with the seat’s lap belt.

There is no guarantee of carriage for any child restraint system not meeting the requirements listed below. Parents agree to check in the child seat as baggage if it does not meet requirements or cannot be properly attached to the aircraft seat.

Comfort devices which attach to the aircraft seat or are placed in the footwell are not permitted. These include, for example, inflatable cubes, seat extensions and the like.

Expectant mothers

Expectant mothers with an uncomplicated pregnancy can fly with Discover Airlines without a certificate from their gynecologist up to the end of their 36th week of pregnancy or up to four weeks before their expected due date. Nevertheless, from the 28th week of pregnancy, we recommend that you carry an up-to-date medical certificate with you that includes the following information:

The gynecologist should also expressly state that the pregnancy does not prevent the patient from flying. In the case of uncomplicated twin or multiple pregnancies, flying is possible until the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy. Due to the increased risk of thrombosis during pregnancy, we recommend that expectant mothers wear support stockings on the plane.

Pregnancy statement for air travel

Regardless of the health requirements listed above, different regulations apply in some countries. Discover Airlines accepts no liability if you are denied permission to fly on grounds of country-specific regulations. The same applies should you be refused entry due to your pregnancy because of the local law in your destination country. We therefore strongly recommend that you find out in advance from the relevant authorities about the country-specific regulations regarding permission to fly for expectant mothers.

In addition, digital games in the Onboard Cloud invite them to an extensive gaming round. As well as games of skill in which children demonstrate their abilities, and puzzles waiting to be solved, there are many other offers to discover.
