Electronic devices and batteries

Personal electronic devices and batteries are classed as dangerous goods because, if damaged, they can generate heat, short-circuit and start a fire.

It is not permitted to carry with you defective or damaged personal electronic devices or batteries, or any such items recalled by the manufacturer for safety reasons. The list of electronic devices and batteries is not exhaustive and can be expanded at any time.

The power of lithium-ion batteries is specified in watt hours (Wh). The lithium content (LC) is stated for lithium metal batteries. Conversion aid for battery power:
  • watt hours (Wh) = ampere hours (Ah) x voltage (V); or
  • watt hours (Wh) = milliampere hours (mAh) x voltage (V) / 1,000

Portable electronic devices with lithium batteries for your personal use, e.g. laptops, smartphones, tablets, electric toiletry items, toys, and others

Portable electronic devices with batteries that DO NOT CONTAIN LITHIUM for your personal use e.g. electric toiletry items or toys

Power banks, replacement batteries and loose batteries

Battery-operated personal and sports transport devices, e.g. e-bikes, e-scooters, underwater scooters, e-baggage scooters, e-golf carts, and others

Battery-powered wheelchairs and mobility aids

Battery-powered portable medical devices, e.g. defibrillators, CPAP devices, portable oxygen concentrators (POCs)

E-cigarettes, e-pipes, e-cigars and other inhalers with integrated batteries

Photo and video equipment with lithium batteries

Avalanche rescue backpacks

Diving lamps, soldering irons and other heat-generating items with integrated batteries

Wet and dry batteries

Smart baggage – removable lithium batteries

Smart baggage – permanently installed lithium batteries

Baggage trackers

Electronic bag tags (EBTs)

If you wish to take an electronic device or a battery with you on your trip that is not mentioned above, please contact our Service Center.

Other transport information:

  • All lithium batteries must comply with the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, Section 38.3.
  • However, if you do carry with you electronic devices or batteries that are not permitted for transport, you risk the items being confiscated from you at the airport. No liability will be assumed for confiscated items.
  • These transport guidelines meet the national requirements as well as the current IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations for safe transport of electronic devices and batteries. Discover Airlines reserves the right to take more restrictive measures for reasons of safety.
  • There may be more restrictive country regulations.

Pets on board
If you’ve been unable to find holiday care for your loyal little companion or you simply don’t want to be separated from them, then why not take them on vacation with you? At Discover Airlines, small pets are permitted to fly with you in the cabin after registration.
Dangerous goods
In order to guarantee your safety on board, the transport of certain items either in checked baggage or in your carry-on baggage is not permitted. On the following page you’ll find an overview of which dangerous goods may be transported in which item of baggage.
